But, for some, their history contains periods of under-achievement, underestimation, lack of faith from the racing community, or sometimes just plain rejection. Here we look at a broad selection of stallions who at some point sat in an unpromising situation yet overcame that to establish themselves in the top echelon of sires. Sunday Silence's racing and stud prowess are in no doubt.
But Americans didn't want him at the sales, and they didn't want him as a stallion. Easy Goer was received warmly at stud in the U. Zenya Yoshida's bid secured him for Japan, and he departed without much regret — until his first runners appeared. He was Japan's leading sire with his first 3-year-olds in and did not relinquish the title untilsix years after his death. Even now he dominates Japanese racing, thanks to his stallion sons and grandsons, and his influence has spread a little thanks to big-race wins around the world for his descendants, but the few attempts that have been made to propagate his line outside Japan have had limited success.
Sir Tristram was bypassed as a stallion in the Northern Hemisphere because his racing career fell well below the standard required. He had talent, demonstrated by the fact that he contested the Kentucky Derby in which he was 11 thbut two minor wins in France from 19 starts did not advertise him. At the time, however, Australasians had had much success importing well-bred stallions lacking racing prowess.
The good-looking though temperamental Sir Tristram, from the second crop of an Epsom Derby winner and tracing to Hyperion's dam Selene, qualified well. Bought by Patrick Hogan to stand in New Zealand, Sir Tristram started at a modest fee but became one of the most important Australasian sires of his era.
He earned countless sire and broodmare sire titles in Australia and New Zealand, and his name remains ubiquitous in modern pedigrees. Virtually throughout his racing and breeding careers, Blushing Groom carried a huge reputation.
But his start at stud was distinctly slow. Bearing in mind that Blushing Groom was an outstanding French juvenile, he disappointed by failing to get any Group or Graded winners in his first season with runners For modern-day stallions, that can deal a damaging or fatal blow; in s Kentucky, breeders retained their faith.

Sea The Stars started his racing career at Curragh in July Still very green and boxed in in the final furlong, he finished a close fourth behind subsequent US Grade 1 winner Driving Snow.
This turned out to be his closest race. Sea The Stars completed a perfect three-year-old campaign, winning six Group I races in six months, including two English Classic races and one Europe's most prestigious 3-year old and up race. His three-year-old record is described by many as the best of modern thoroughbred racing.
Sea The Stars was rested over the winter, and John Oxx entered him in the Guineas without a prep race. There were concerns about his preparations because of a setback on 17 March due to a viral infection and a temperature. He rested for 2 weeks, which hampered his preparation for the Guineas.
However, Oxx still wanted to give him his chance at a mile, and a good workout the week prior to the race encouraged Oxx to declare him. He's been crying out for this ground. Despite doubts about his stamina and a strong field, notably from Ballydoylewho fielded six of the twelve runners, Sea The Stars won the Epsom Derbybeating the favourite, Fame And Glory, and Masterofthehorse making it a to Ireland.
Mick Kinane winning his third Derby two weeks shy of his 50th birthday said of the winner, "I was going so easy all the way, it was as if we were going in slow motion. Sea the Stars was scratched from the Irish Derby due to the track conditions, but won the Eclipse Stakes at Sandown Park a week later. Always travelling well, he overtook the fading pacemakers early down the straight, forcing Kinane to commit earlier than expected. Rip Van Winkle came with a strong challenge two furlongs out, but Sea The Stars fought him off with a surge of acceleration, winning readily by one and a half lengths, with Breeders' Cup Turf winner Conduit five lengths behind in third.
Scaring off most of the opposition, he faced only four other horses were left in the race, three of them from Ballydoyle. James's Palace Stakes at Ascot, was the main opposition, with the two others acting as pacemakers. Tracking Mastercraftsman throughout the race, Kinane followed Johnny Murtagh through a narrowing gap created by the two pacemakers at the beginning of the straight.
Sea The Stars powered past Mastercraftsman in the last furlong, taking the Group I race by a length and breaking the track record by 0. It was Sea The Stars' first appearance in front of his home crowd sinceand the race was billed as a clash between him and Fame and Glorywho since finishing second in The Derby had won the Irish Derby by five lengths and been rested for two months.
The race was highly anticipated, as the rematch during the Irish Derby was postponed due to ground conditions. A patient Kinane stayed on Murtagh's heels and with a powerful burst of speed went easily past Fame and Glory two furlongs out to win by two and a half lengths.
Mastercraftsman finished third, another two and a half lengths behind Fame and Glory. On 4 Octobersix months since his win in the GuineasSea The Stars lined up as the odds-on favourite for Europe's most prestigious 3-year-old and up race, the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe in France. A large field of nineteen runners along with a long and difficult season were major concerns, with some thinking this was one race too many. Quickly out of the stalls, Sea The Stars pulled very hard for the first two furlongs, was bumped and dropped back down the field.
Kinane settled him and raced on in eighth and ninth position throughout the race. Turning into the straight, Sea The Stars stayed on the rail and seemed boxed in and in trouble. As the principals started to pick up, Kinane found a gap and challenged Stacelita alongside Dar Re Mi. Sea The Stars then produced a decisive turn of foot and went clear in a matter of strides. After going three lengths clear half a furlong out, he was eased down, winning by two lengths.
He thus became the only horse to have won the Guineas, Epsom Derbyand Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe in the same year.
He was rated six pounds superior to the second-rated horse, Goldikova. His retirement was announced on 13 October by trainer John Oxx. The Prix De l'Arc de Triomphe winner, Zarkava, was among the first mares booked to be covered by him.Galileo was a four-time champion sire by the time Frankel made his debut at Banstead Manor in Consequently, the path to stardom as a stallion might have been expected to be as smooth and straight as it could possibly be, but even these exceptional Classic winners have had to go through a few trials and tribulations along the way.
Breeders who used them at these increased fees this year will have been reassured by their respective performances at Royal Ascot. Crystal Ocean and Stradivarius had finished second and third, separated by only a short head, behind the Irish Derby winner Capri in a hot edition of the St Leger.
Sea The Stars now has eight Group 1 winners, six Group 2 winners and 11 Group 3 winners to his credit from his first four crops. Good things are worth waiting for, and this applies to Sea The Stars and his progeny.
Although he won two of his three juvenile starts, including the G2 Beresford S. So far only two of his 25 group winners have succeeded in winning at that level at the age of two, these being the G3 Prix des Chenes winner Cloth of Stars, who developed into a Group 2 winner at three and a Group 1 winner at four, and the G3 Park S.
This crop is his largest of his first six crops, at foals. This is comfortably the most numerous cross for Sea The Stars. She has developed into a wonderful producer, with three group winners and a listed winner. Fourth dam Sassalya produced 16 named foals, most of them above average. In addition to Sasuru, there was Sally Rous, winner of two group races over seven furlongs, including the Jersey S.

Previous Story Next Story. Subscribe Now. Thoroughbred Daily News 60 Broad St.This is great blog. Thoroughbred Horses are just perfect for race. Thank You for sharing with us. This debate has been ongoing ever since both champions had established their greatness on the track. They won 16 Group 1 races between them. Many will personally agree with me that Sea The Stars race record is that bit stronger then Frankel's.
Sea The Stars was tried from 8F to 12F and always seemed to be a better horse the further he went. The race went terribly wrong for him from the start off. Frankel was equally as brilliant. He was a most astonishing winner of the Group 1 Queen Anne stakes.
Unlike Sea The Stars Frankel ran as a four-year-old. It was as an older horse that the public really got to see what he was capable of.
For many racing fans it was a disappointment that Frankel wasn't stepped up in trip earlier in his career. His last two runs were both at 10F. It was also a blow that Frankel never ran outside Britain. Sea The Stars only raced once in his homeland as a three-year-old and also in France. He ran four times in Britain and all his runs were at the highest level. All of Frankel's 14 races were in Britain. Sea The Stars has one of the most sought after stallions pedigree in the world.
He is a half brother to stallion sensation Galileo, who is the sire of non other then Frankel. Strictly speaking Sea The Stars could be called Frankel's uncle. When you ask people who is the greatest they go by the horses performance, the number of Group 1 winners they beat in their career etc.
The votes have always been fairly close. The public appreciate both horses. The answer in my opinion can not be answered.20 best skincare herbs for treating eczema
It is impossible to know who was the better horse. Sea The Stars was majestic and only ever done enough in his races. Frankel on the other hand would destroy his rivals. But in my opinion although he beat some very high class horses they weren't of the ability of Sea The Stars. Sea The Stars was incredible over a mile while Frankel was breathtaking at a mile.
It is hard to know who would come out on top if both had met. Many believe under a mile it would be Frankel and over a mile would be Sea The Stars. I honestly cannot say who would win.
Renewing a Winning Pedigree
Sea The Stars won the guineas at a mile. Although he wasn't as visually stunning as Frankel because he only done enough to get his head in front. John Oxx always described him as "a horse who only ever done enough" while Frankel seemed to have a more competitive streak.
The answer to who the greatest horse ever was simply cannot be identified. Simply because both were truly high class horses who never ran against each other. We don't know how they would fare against past greats such as Dancing Brave, Shergar, Nijinsky etc.ENG FR. Select a subject Stallions Sales News Other.
